About Us

Welcome to HorseTrekInFrance

We are a small english-run family business in  Maleville which is a pretty village in the Aveyron, a stone’s throw away from Villefranche de Rouergue with its fabulous river, shops, restaurants and bustling weekly market.

Trek along the countless number of tracks, rivers and valleys and enjoy the wildlife including deer and birds of prey like buzzards and kites.

Our horses and ponies are top quality registered with the KWPN and AE stud books.

We have a fabulous floodlit ménage and an indoor riding school to get you started in!

We provide personal and individual tuition suited to all ages and abilities.  The emphasis here is on personal attention, allowing you to relax, free from stress and pressure and able to appreciate the beauty that is the Aveyron, whether on foot or on horseback.

If you fancy a break from riding you can play football, boules (petanque), volleyball and practice your basketball skills.

Lac de Bannac is close by and offers pedalos, treetop adventures with a zipwire circuit that crosses over the lake in both directions, large outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant bar and evening entertainment.
For those foodies amongst you we have The Vieux Pont Restaurant at Belcastel, one of the 'must see' villages in The Aveyron, but be warned, quality comes at a price!

Villefranche de Rouergue has a newly built leisure centre with swimming pool and play pool. There are plans for a large outdoor pool in the near future.

Our milk and cream is supplied directly from the nearby dairy, eggs are fresh daily from our free-range pedigree ‘Orpington Black’ hens and vegetables are currently growing in our newly developed ‘jardin’.

The farmhouse is of traditional Aveyronaise construction with solid stone built walls and a steeply pitched roof of scalloped slate tiles unique to the area.  Internally it has the more contemporary feel of a modern home.  Log burning fires, external Jacuzzi/hot tub, sun terrace with sun beds, barbeques and views to die for!

For the gym-junkies amongst you we have a fully equipped gym which includes two rowing machines, a cat-eye computerised training cycle, smith machine, ‘Total Fitness’ resistance multi-gym, speedball, free-weights (barbells and dumbells), inversion machine and a leather Keytone Shiatsu massage chair. From the sedate to the strenuous, there is something to suit everyone and if you have ‘anything left in the tank’ Chris can always use an extra pair of hands around the place!

Bridget was a schoolteacher for 32 years , heading the Art department, Girls Games and Religious Studies. She took early retirement but now applies her creativity around the house and in the gardens which she has created from scratch.

She has trained showjumping ponies and horses to national and international success.  From her beautiful farmhouse nestled in a stunning region of the Aveyron she spends her time riding the inexhaustible number of tracks through the beautiful countryside, virtually devoid of traffic, on quality horses and ponies.  The experience was too good to keep to herself  and so HorseTrekInFrance was born.

Chris has taken early retirement from Nissan in the UK to fulfil his dream of the 'good life' in France.  After many years of driving the children around the  UK  showjumping competition circuit he is very much at ease with horses and ponies. A gadget man, he loves his PCs, ride on mower, barn full of power tools and bread maker - he is quite an expert now (try his multi-cereal walnut and raisin bread!).

Chris was born and bred in Royal Leamington Spa in leafy Warwickshire, a real towny until meeting up with Bridget some 30 plus years ago. Many years spent as a playing member of Leamington Rugby club until family commitments took over.
